Summer is here! You’ll probably go on vacations or at least away for a weekend at some point, right? When the sun is out, you have to enjoy it (especially here in Canada…). For that, you might need a weekender bag, but you will also need a beach bag!
Last Christmas, we booked a quite last-minute trip to Cuba. We were already tired of winter (even if it hadn’t really started yet, Canadian-style) and decided that we deserved it. I was so excited for the sun, the beach… everything! We had one month to prepare everything. Pretty easy! I said to my self “I have tiiiiiiime!”, you don’t need a lot of things to go on a beach vacation anyway, right?. That was until one week before the D-day. Because then I realized that I didn’t have any beach things. No swimsuit, no sunscreen and… no beach bag. Swimsuit and sunscreen were pretty easy. Quick trip to Victoria Secret and the pharmacy and it was done. But the beach bag guys… NO-WAY to find a good one in the middle of January. Or everything was online… but I had no time for that (delivery and everything). All the bags I have are in leather and I don’t own a lot of totes… My only option (already in my closet) was my gym bag. Not great for the beach vibe! So then I tried an ultimate trip to the mall and ended up in Gap. I never thought of it before because I only think of Gap for clothes, not accessories. And here it was, the first piece of their new collection. Only one in the store! I grabbed it right away!
Conclusion: a trip to the mall is always worth it!
– The look. It is minimalist: no pocket, no hardware, nothing fancy. We’ve seen more practical for sure but for me it is okay. You just put all your stuff in it without thinking about it and that’s it. Also, I have to say that I am a fan of the Navy stripes look… especially for a beach bag (and maybe because my name is Marine…).
– The material. Yes, this bag is white/cream and it could easily get dirty. But is is 100% cotton canvas. Which means that you can just throw it in the washing machine and voilà! Quick, easy, no brainer. I love that!
I don’t like
– It is wide open. No zipper at the top or even a magnet or something… You just have to be careful so that you don’t lose anything. Also, I have to say that if you love this bag but absolutely want a zipper, Gap offers one here, but it is MUCH bigger (way too big for me… they actually call it a weekender). Oh, and you don’t have any inside pocket either. So if you’re looking for an easy-to-organize beach bag, this one is not for you.

Even if I chose it because I didn’t have much choice anyway, I love my Gap beach bag. It is super simple but big enough so you can put all your summer essentials in it without problem. What I also like is that the look is not too much beachy… I also use it to go to the farmers market for instance! It’s always good to find a multi-purpose bag when you can!
My advice, if you’re in the market for a beach bag, is: buy it now! Even if you don’t go on vacations this summer (because you’re planning on going during the winter for instance), please don’t end up like me and buy it NOW! You will have much more options available to you and might even find a good one on sale… You won’t regret it!
