New items in my winter 2017 capsule wardrobe

winter 2017 capsule wardrobe

I already talked to you about the capsule wardrobe concept in a previous post (go check it out if you haven’t and are a bit curious!). Basically, quality prevails over quantity and you switch up your wardrobe every 3 months to only keep seasonal items in it. Therefore, beginning of January was the time to update my capsule wardrobe for 3 months of cold/snowy/windy Canada. Following my 2017 resolution to widen my horizons and not just talk about handbags and purses on the blog this year, I thought that I would share with you what I bought. Remember, these are the only items that I will buy before April!

Before starting, I want to say that I waited for January to buy my new items (while you are supposed to do it around end of December) for 2 main reasons: 1/ I live in Canada so we still have plenty of time before Spring arrives. I will definitely have time to wear all these items! 2/ All the stores were doing sales! I didn’t pay full price for a single item! I am definitely doing that again next year!

So here it is. As you will see, there is definitely a Nude/Grey/Black theme going on. My only “pop” of colour would be touches of blue (I know, wild!)

Blouses and Shirts:

I bought 2 blouses/shirts this season. The first one is this plaid one from RW&CO. To be completely honest, I didn’t really need another black blouse but the back was SO nice. Check on the website for more pictures. it is gorgeous! The second one was (maybe) not my smartest move as I found it in H&M and I don’t know how long it will last me. But the shape was exactly what I was looking for and didn’t find anywhere else: it is loose but not because I sized up 3 times. So the shoulders and arms lengths are perfect. I love it! Let’s hope the quality won’t be that bad.

Sweaters and Cardigans:

Winter means Sweater. Especially when you live in Canada! This season I got 2 sweaters (both from Gap) and 1 cardigan. The turtleneck one is SO soft, you just want to live in it. Be careful if you buy it, it will be hard to pick a different one in the drawer! What I loved about the striped sweater is that it contains all the colors of my capsule wardrobe. Easy peasy to match with everything! Also, since I bought it I got a lot of compliments on it (it never hurts!). It is now out of stock but I found similar ones (see below). Finally, I have been looking for a cream/beige long cardigan for ages. I have nice grey ones but I never found a nude one that I liked. But now I found it. It is from Tristan and I love it (except for the fact that it sheds a lot. I hope it will get better with a few washes).

Pants:

I didn’t really need new pants/skirts this season but when I went to Gap and I saw my favorite jeans were available in black and 50% off, I couldn’t resist! I have a few other black pants that I can wear to work so this was really not a good “capsule wardrobe thinking” purchase but that’s okay. You don’t have to restrain yourself because you will have 1 extra piece in your closet than what you are supposed to have!

Shoes and Accessories:

Finally, I made some accessories purchases to complete my winter wardrobe. These navy glitter boots were so cute, I couldn’t not bring them back with me from France! I wear denim jeans and navy everything all the time so even with the glitter effect, I can wear them a lot (even for work). You just have to pair them with a more casual outfit and that’s it. I also bought a new beanie and a matching scarf from Gap. I love their color as it brightens my navy winter coat. A little disclaimer though: the scarf is so SOFT you want to spend your day in it. But it also sheds A LOT. It ruins my coat every time I wear it. I think I should try to wash it a few times to see if it will help. If you have any advice… I am all ears!
